From an unknown verb Proto-Turkic *yaŋ- +‎ *-gak.

Akin to Proto-Mongolic *jixag (walnut). Compared also Proto-Tungusic *ńaŋta (cone, nut, fruit stone), Orok [script needed] (naŋu-, to crack nuts). (Can this(+) etymology be sourced?)
