@Justinrleung See [1] for a Min Nan definition. —suzukaze (tc) 03:58, 27 March 2016 (UTC)Reply

@suzukaze-c No idea what 這個麼 means... — justin(r)leung (t...) | c=› } 04:12, 27 March 2016 (UTC)Reply
(I don't either...) Perhaps the Min Nan should just be left out then. —suzukaze (tc) 04:28, 27 March 2016 (UTC)Reply
(after more than a year) @Suzukaze-c I think it means "這個嗎?". — justin(r)leung (t...) | c=› } 02:41, 20 August 2017 (UTC)Reply

Two different meanings[edit]

@Wyang, Tooironic, Suzukaze-c, there seem to be two different but related meanings for 這麼. In Cantonese, one would be gam2 (kind of like 這樣, is this an adverb or a pronoun?) and the other would be gam3 (determiner?). The dialectal synonyms would also have to account for this difference. — justin(r)leung (t...) | c=› } 02:46, 20 August 2017 (UTC)Reply

Pinging @Dokurrat, Atitarev as well. — justin(r)leung (t...) | c=› } 02:47, 20 August 2017 (UTC)Reply
@Tooironic: Are you sure zème is common, even in regions where zh and z are distinguished? I know it would obviously be common in Southern China and Taiwan. — justin(r)leung (t...) | c=› } 02:54, 20 August 2017 (UTC)Reply
I think so, yes, even for some Northern speakers, but I have no data to back this up, so maybe let's just leave it for now. ---> Tooironic (talk) 03:10, 20 August 2017 (UTC)Reply
@Tooironic: 漢語方言詞彙 lists five different pronunciations for 這麼 (zhème, zhènme, zème, zènme, zènm), so we could add zème along with the others. I'm not sure about how we should add the last one though, since m is not really used in standard Mandarin. — justin(r)leung (t...) | c=› } 03:15, 20 August 2017 (UTC)Reply
  • There is indeed a distinction in other lects. Would it be reasonable to split it into 這麼 (indicates degree, e.g. 這麼多, 這麼晚, Cantonese 咁 gam3) and 這麼 (indicates manner, e.g. 這麼定, 這麼說, Cantonese 噉 gam2) and list the dialectal equivalents of the latter under 這樣? Wyang (talk) 02:55, 20 August 2017 (UTC)Reply
@Wyang: Sounds good! — justin(r)leung (t...) | c=› } 03:01, 20 August 2017 (UTC)Reply
Great, I've split it into two senses. Please check the dial table Justin. :) Wyang (talk) 03:07, 20 August 2017 (UTC)Reply
In the past, I have often made the mistake of writing 怎么 when I should write 这么; I think my problem is connected to me hearing people use the zhènme and zènme pronunciations. I don't really know if my anecdote adds anything to this or not. --Geographyinitiative (talk) 05:51, 27 December 2018 (UTC)Reply
