One of those "words of the year" that get discussed in the media and not actually used. Certainly I don't think that three sense lines can be justified. Equinox 15:42, 21 May 2018 (UTC)Reply

I could not find actual uses. (The Guardian literally named it "the word of the year nobody has heard of"...) – Einstein2 (talk) 15:48, 21 May 2018 (UTC)Reply

I can find one (brief/low-quality) capitalized use:

  • 2018 (2017-12-21 to 2018-01-03 issue), From the Editor, in Canberra Weekly:
From the dual citizenship distraction, Kwaussies and Centrelink robo-debt to the child abuse Royal Commission, Manus Island and same sex marriage debate, we've experienced highs and lows.

And a lowercase use in the Ashburton Guardian. It occurs in a team name in an edition of the Central Coast Grandstand. But it's exceeding rare and many of the other hits are calling out how little-used it is. - -sche (discuss) 17:29, 21 May 2018 (UTC)Reply

I have added a number of quotes to the citations page for Kwaussie, which seems the far more common casing. It still would only be a hotword, unless the 2002 article about Russel Crowe could be found. I've only heard about it in the context of the parliamentary scandal, which was really pretty funny watching a cynical political ploy blow up in their faces. I've moved the page and merged the senses accordingly. Btw, does anyone know if this is also pronounced with /s/ rather than /z/? I would expect so... - -sche (discuss) 05:22, 22 May 2018 (UTC)Reply
No, it is pronounce with /z/, just like Aussie is, or at least it is here in New Zealand. Kiwima (talk) 12:01, 22 May 2018 (UTC)Reply

RFV-passed. Converted to hotword. Kiwima (talk) 20:49, 30 May 2018 (UTC)Reply

There's a use from 2011 here ("Once again the Kwaussies trigger my internet warrior alert,") but it may be the (related? unrelated?) sports team name. - -sche (discuss) 01:20, 9 April 2019 (UTC)Reply

This was named Australian Dictionary Centre's "Word of the year" in 2017, but I can't find any usage later than January 2018 (nor earlier than 2017). Cnilep (talk) 03:20, 14 June 2020 (UTC)Reply

I'm an idiot: I should have looked at Talk:Kwaussie; it was RFV'd in 2018. Cnilep (talk) 03:24, 14 June 2020 (UTC)Reply
