- It is in dictionaries, but only in the etymology for the term. Our etymology is consistent with those of a couple of dictionaries that I checked. I would tag it as obsolete, rather than dated, though. The most familiar example to us in the US is in the song w:Yankee Doodle, where it's the probable source of the name.
