I think the first sense is over-specific and the second is a misguided attempt to correct it. They should both be merged into "leaves and leaf-like parts of plants when eaten as vegetables. That way you exclude peppers and sweet corn without excluding anything that's the wrong color. Off the top of my head, I can't think of any plants with cladophylls, for instance, that are eaten as greens, but there's nothing in principle saying there couldn't be.
