Rfv-sense: The number of ends per inch in the cloth, provided each dent in the reed in which it was made contained an equal number of ends. MooreDoor (talk) 08:42, 25 November 2021 (UTC)
This is easily cited, but the cites are not interesting enough to add to the entry. See this, this, and this. Kiwima (talk) 03:48, 28 November 2021 (UTC)
- The definition is, to me as a non-weaver, incomprehensible. What if there are an unequal number of ends in the dents? Does the word cease to apply? It sounds like there may be a more general underlying meaning, of which this definition is a special case (as if, say, quotient was defined as "the number of objects in each group after dividing a set of objects into n groups, provided that the total number of objects is evenly divisible by n"). - Having done some further research I am satisfied with a new definition that removes the "provided..." clause, which is not supported by the sources I've looked at. This, that and the other (talk) 01:20, 5 December 2021 (UTC)
