Etymology[edit]

Borrowing from Persian تهران (Tehrân). Ahmad Kasravi believes the word "Tehran" is derived from an Indo-European language and originally meant "The Hot Place" ("Teh" or "Keh" meaning hot, "and" "Rān" meaning "Place of"). (Kārvande Kasravi, Page 273)
