Borrowed from Persian تهران(tehrân). Ahmad Kasravi believed the word "Tehran" is derived from an Indo-European language and originally meant "the Hot Place" ("teh" meaning "Hot", and "rān" meaning "Place"). (Karvand Kasravi, page 273)
