Welcome

[edit]

Hello, welcome to Wiktionary, and thank you for your contributions so far.

If you are unfamiliar with wiki-editing, take a look at Help:How to edit a page. It is a concise list of technical guidelines to the wiki format we use here: how to, for example, make text boldfaced or create hyperlinks. Feel free to practice in the sandbox. If you would like a slower introduction we have a short tutorial.

These links may help you familiarize yourself with Wiktionary:

  • Entry layout (EL) is a detailed policy on Wiktionary's page formatting; all entries must conform to it. The easiest way to start off is to copy the contents of an existing same-language entry, and then adapt it to fit the entry you are creating.
  • Check out Language considerations to find out more about how to edit for a particular language.
  • Our Criteria for Inclusion (CFI) defines exactly which words can be added to Wiktionary; the most important part is that Wiktionary only accepts words that have been in somewhat widespread use over the course of at least a year, and citations that demonstrate usage can be asked for when there is doubt.
  • If you already have some experience with editing our sister project Wikipedia, then you may find our guide for Wikipedia users useful.
  • If you have any questions, bring them to Wiktionary:Information desk or ask me on my talk page.
  • Whenever commenting on any discussion page, please sign your posts with four tildes (~~~~) which automatically produces your username and timestamp.
  • You are encouraged to add a BabelBox to your userpage to indicate your self-assessed knowledge of languages.

Enjoy your stay at Wiktionary! --Lo Ximiendo (talk) 19:41, 18 December 2017 (UTC)Reply

Urdu Nouns

[edit]

If the noun کلیسیا is masculine, add the letter "m" to the parameter "|g="; if the noun is feminine, add the letter "f". --Lo Ximiendo (talk) 19:51, 18 December 2017 (UTC)Reply

The noun sounded feminine to me. --Lo Ximiendo (talk) 20:16, 18 December 2017 (UTC)Reply
میرے خیال سے یہ لفظ feminine ہے. ہندی میں feminine ہوتی ہے. (Sorry, I don't know the Urdu word for "feminine", is it تانيث (tānīs)?) —AryamanA (मुझसे बात करेंयोगदान) 00:53, 19 December 2017 (UTC)Reply
Don't be afraid to look up any English words, that you're unfamiliar with, such as feminine which means Arabic مُؤَنَّث (muʔannaṯ) in the sense of grammar. --Lo Ximiendo (talk) 02:36, 19 December 2017 (UTC)Reply
Oh wait, wrong user. --Lo Ximiendo (talk) 02:37, 19 December 2017 (UTC)Reply
You are right (for hindi) @Aryamanarora but it is masculine (مذکر) in urdu. Thanks.BukhariSaeed (talk) 02:44, 19 December 2017 (UTC)Reply

Thanks for telling me. You have to add the transliteration using |tr= (e.g. at مذکر (muzakkar) that I just made). Perhaps we could add support for vowel markings eventually. —AryamanA (मुझसे बात करेंयोगदान) 23:52, 19 December 2017 (UTC)Reply

And please don't use |pl=, that can go in the declension tables. —AryamanA (मुझसे बात करेंयोगदान) 23:53, 19 December 2017 (UTC)Reply

Urdu templates

[edit]

Hi,

Urdu terms need to use Urdu templates, then they are categorised correctly. BTW, there is no second plural or plural transliterations in the Urdu templates. Please note my edit in diff. --Anatoli T. (обсудить/вклад) 11:31, 4 January 2018 (UTC)Reply

Oh, thanks for correction.BukhariSaeed (talk) 11:37, 4 January 2018 (UTC)Reply

Stop use {{etyl}}

[edit]

It is deprecated. Use {{der}}, {{bor}}, {{inh}}. It is less writing, more information, and looks better. Palaestrator verborum sis loquier 🗣 14:42, 4 January 2018 (UTC)Reply

دعای ربانی

[edit]

Hello, I am truly sorry if you saw my original edit at دعای ربانی, it was a genuine mistake caused by copying and pasting. I would never write something like that. Many apologies if you did see it. Kaixinguo~enwiktionary (talk) 17:44, 13 January 2018 (UTC)Reply

Urdu transliteration

[edit]

Hi,

Thank you for your Urdu contributions. Perhaps you should consider a more consistent and standard transliteration? WT:UR TR is a good start but it may need tweaking. E.g. you have transliterated صلیب as "alīb" but the use of "" may not be justified, since it's just a regular "s". Regular previous contributors used a transliteration very similar to Hindi. --Anatoli T. (обсудить/вклад) 22:09, 13 January 2018 (UTC)Reply

hi=

[edit]

Thanks for your Urdu additions! When you can, please be sure to use the hi= parameter to link to the Devanagari spelling of a word (and the Hindi entries should link to the Urdu spelling as well). See پادری for an example. Cheers! —Μετάknowledgediscuss/deeds 04:56, 14 January 2018 (UTC)Reply
