dannelse[edit]

I created "Category:Danish terms with quotations" if you're interested. DonnanZ (talk) 18:54, 22 January 2018 (UTC)Reply

@Donnanz I mostly use QQ to add citations and use the default format.__Gamren (talk) 09:54, 23 January 2018 (UTC)Reply
I'm not familiar with QQ, but once you have done all the hard work they are quite easy to convert to {{quote|da|{Danish text)|(English text)}}. You only have to convert one quotation for it to register in the category. DonnanZ (talk) 10:06, 23 January 2018 (UTC)Reply
@Donnanz You know what would be even easier? Making an invisible version of {{quote}} that only accepts a language code, then include it anywhere on the page.__Gamren (talk) 10:11, 24 January 2018 (UTC)Reply
If you can make that work... The present system is designed so that if a translation is not included it shows as a usage example with translation missing, e.g. with Norwegian Bokmål viskelær (not one of mine). I only create quotations when I find a passage in Google Books that grabs my attention, there may still be one or two earlier ones I did where I haven't used {{quote}}, and haven't updated them. Remind me[edit]

to bang my head against a wall next time I put "en" on a Danish entry by mistake.

About the alternative forms section, the header can be placed either above or below the definition. According to the vote, looks like it should be decided on a case-by-case basis, but lately I've been in the habit of keeping it on the bottom personally.

Lol, very tired. PseudoSkull (talk) 12:22, 17 March 2018 (UTC)Reply

I do the thing with language codes all the time, presumably because a lot of the typing is committed to muscle memory.__Gamren (talk) 12:43, 17 March 2018 (UTC)Reply

ulykkesbil[edit]

I have nominated ulykkesbil for foreign word of the day. It needs three citations and IPA pronunciation. Do you think you can add these to the entry so it can pass FWOTD? The term was mentioned somewhere as being hard to translate into English, so it makes for an interesting addition to FWOTD. PseudoSkull (talk) 18:26, 20 March 2018 (UTC)Reply

@PseudoSkull Sure.__Gamren (talk) 18:38, 20 March 2018 (UTC)Reply
@PseudoSkull Alright. Some might disagree about the [æ], though.__Gamren (talk) 20:20, 17 May 2018 (UTC)Reply

Genitive forms of nominal adjectives/verb forms turned into adjectives and then turned into nouns with a genitive added[edit]

fastboendes is an example (see this). It seems to be much rarer, but a possible linguistic outcome nonetheless. Do you have any suggestions on how to deal with these inflections here at Wiktionary? Someone may not know how to deduce "fastboendes" on its own, and would not know why -s is added to the end of an adjective, etc. PseudoSkull (talk) 17:41, 29 March 2018 (UTC)Reply

For some more background, Den Danske Ordbog's website redirects fastboendes to fastboende, and redirects fuckets to fucke (verb). PseudoSkull (talk) 17:42, 29 March 2018 (UTC)Reply
@PseudoSkull I would suggest
  1. genitive of fastboende (at fastboendes)
  2. genitive present participle of spise (at spisendes)
I would enter all the ones below as forms of the infinitive:
dræbe (infinitive) -> dræbt (past participle with the [-d̥] ending) -> dræbte (e-form past participle) -> dræbtes, e.g. de dræbtes familier ("the families of the killed ones")
drukne (infinitive) -> druknet (past participle with the [-əð] ending) (-> druknets (genitive past participle) -> druknede (e-form of past participle) -> druknedes (genitive e-form past participle), e.g. den druknedes legeme ("the body of the drowned one")
__Gamren (talk) 09:25, 31 March 2018 (UTC)Reply
@PseudoSkull You could also look at what the French editors do, e.g. at ondulés.__Gamren (talk) 19:02, 26 May 2018 (UTC)Reply

Spiders[edit]

What's the difference between fugleedderkop and tarantel? They both apparently translate to tarantula but Ordnet does not list them as synonyms... There is also the literal "bird spider" in English but yeah I'm totally confused. PseudoSkull (talk) 19:33, 4 April 2018 (UTC)Reply

@PseudoSkull I'm not knowledgeable in species and their names, so I searched around. According to Gyldendals Leksikon and Den store danske, fugleedderkopper is a suborder called Mygalomorphae. Wikipedia says it's a family called Theraphosidae.
Gyldendals Leksikon and Den Store Danske say tarantel refers to Lycosa tarantula. I have no idea whether there are better sources for this kind of information. You are better served asking someone on da.wiki who edits these kind of articles.__Gamren (talk) 20:45, 4 April 2018 (UTC)Reply

Thank you for RFV[edit]

Search in talk pages for RFV failed.__Gamren confirms my impression that you do a lot of administration of RFV. Thank you; that is very much needed. --Dan Polansky (talk) 08:48, 17 May 2018 (UTC)Reply

@Dan Polansky Oh, you're welcome.__Gamren (talk) 19:59, 17 May 2018 (UTC)Reply

ISBN numbers[edit]

Hi, MediaWiki has decided to stop supporting "magic links". That means that simply typing "ISBN" followed by a number won't create a link at some point in the future. For this reason, we're moving over to using the template {{ISBN}}. Please be sure to use the template when adding citations. Thanks! —Mahāgaja (formerly Angr) · talk 15:11, 31 May 2018 (UTC)Reply

@Mahagaja Okay, thanks. I've edited MediaWiki:Gadget-QQ.js.__Gamren (talk) 15:19, 31 May 2018 (UTC)Reply
Wait, you're not going to fix all these by hand, are you??__Gamren (talk) 15:19, 31 May 2018 (UTC)Reply

Help with Bad Links[edit]

Hello Gamren, I'm sorry to bother you, but I don't know whether this is possible, but it would be useful in maintaining and extending the Lojban pages. I know there is a way to look for "needed" pages for the wiki as a whole. When a link in Appendix:Lojban is bad (probably because it was marked up with square brackets instead of the "l" Template) because the Lojban words are no longer in mainspace. Could you help me find a list of those that need to be changed? Thank you Jawitkien (talk) 17:14, 13 June 2018 (UTC)Reply

@Jawitkien I don't know how to do that. However, hopefully Lojban won't be in appendix for much longer.__Gamren (talk) 17:44, 13 June 2018 (UTC)Reply

medmenneske[edit]

Definite plural medmenneskene or medmenneskerne; I'm not sure how to fix that. DonnanZ (talk) 10:23, 18 September 2018 (UTC)Reply

@Donnanz You can provide a second definite-plural form with the named pl-def-2 parameter. You may refer to Template:da-decl/documentation for information about how to use the template. I'm honestly surprised you didn't know about template docs.__Gamren (talk) 09:44, 19 September 2018 (UTC)Reply

ko[edit]

Hey, some tosspots vandalised the Danish entry ko. Would you mind checking out to what version it should be restored? ←₰-→ Lingo Bingo Dingo (talk) 10:07, 6 December 2018 (UTC)Reply

@Lingo Bingo Dingo Sure, that would be... my own, apparently. It's kind of sad that vandalism is allowed to stay up for that long.__Gamren (talk) 13:48, 6 December 2018 (UTC)Reply
Thank you. Right, I've just now added some genders to the translations and another Dutch translation... in this slapstick universe it will probably be reverted in an hour. The ping didn't arrive by the way, that only works when you sign with four tildes in the same edit. ←₰-→ Lingo Bingo Dingo (talk) 14:09, 6 December 2018 (UTC)Reply
