Welcome
[edit]Hello, welcome to Wiktionary, and thank you for your contributions so far.
If you are unfamiliar with wiki-editing, take a look at Help:How to edit a page. It is a concise list of technical guidelines to the wiki format we use here: how to, for example, make text boldfaced or create hyperlinks. Feel free to practice in the sandbox. If you would like a slower introduction we have a short tutorial.
These links may help you familiarize yourself with Wiktionary:
- Entry layout (EL) is a detailed policy on Wiktionary's page formatting; all entries must conform to it. The easiest way to start off is to copy the contents of an existing same-language entry, and then adapt it to fit the entry you are creating.
- Check out Language considerations to find out more about how to edit for a particular language.
- Our Criteria for Inclusion (CFI) defines exactly which words can be added to Wiktionary; the most important part is that Wiktionary only accepts words that have been in somewhat widespread use over the course of at least a year, and citations that demonstrate usage can be asked for when there is doubt.
- If you already have some experience with editing our sister project Wikipedia, then you may find our guide for Wikipedia users useful.
- If you have any questions, bring them to Wiktionary:Information desk or ask me on my talk page.
- Whenever commenting on any discussion page, please sign your posts with four tildes (
~~~~
) which automatically produces your username and timestamp. - You are encouraged to add a BabelBox to your userpage to indicate your self-assessed knowledge of languages.
Babelboxes
[edit]Just suggesting that you add babelboxes to your user page to show which languages and writing systems you specialize in (including which language(s) and writing system(s) is native to you). It's helpful to others if you are a contributor that makes a significant number of edits here on wiktionary. Cheers! Bumm13 (talk) 01:51, 8 November 2013 (UTC)
I noticed your edit to 坰 regarding its "Translingual" definition [1], and I noticed that you changed the default "wilds" definition to one that is different from the Unihan database entry definition for this character. I've researched multiple sources and the "wilds" definition is valid (as is "the outermost suburbs", so I will re-add it to the article). The images.gg-art.com website is probably a reliable source, but don't remove other definitions unless you are positive that those definitions are not correct. Be advised that one source may not be enough to verify the accuracy of definitions for Chinese/CJKV characters.
Also, when you add definitions, please wikilink relevant key words using brackets ([[x]]) and it's also a good idea to add your sources (cite them) to a "References" section if they differ significantly from the one(s) found in the Unihan database. The Unihan database was compiled by a large number of East Asian language scholars so it's not just "some random source" of information on these characters. Cheers! Global account
[edit]Hi Kamilz! As a Steward I'm involved in the upcoming unification of all accounts organized by the Wikimedia Foundation (see m:Single User Login finalisation announcement). By looking at your account, I realized that you don't have a global account yet. In order to secure your name, I recommend you to create such account on your own by submitting your password on Special:MergeAccount and unifying your local accounts. If you have any problems with doing that or further questions, please don't hesitate to contact me on my talk page. Cheers, DerHexer (talk) 18:20, 14 January 2015 (UTC)
Translingual definitions
[edit]Hi, please do not add definitions to the translingual section of Han character entries. The definitions should be dealt with in the respective languages. — justin(r)leung { (t...) | c=› } 22:16, 8 September 2017 (UTC)
Definitions
[edit]Hi. Thank you for your contribution. Just want you to know, definitions must be verified and attestable. Please don't add unverified material, especially please don't copy texts from unicode.org. Enjoy editing. Dokurrat (talk) 13:50, 30 December 2017 (UTC)
Japanese sources verified each one by hand with this website: http://tangorin.com/.
NOT UNICODE.ORG!
- I'm not sure to copy text from tangorin.com is a good idea because it seems that content on tangorin.com is copyrighted. Dokurrat (talk) 14:00, 30 December 2017 (UTC)
It's Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike Licence (V3.0).
And I'm here formally attributing that: some of my edits based on tangorin.com a licensor of KANJIDIC2 Dictionary. Which says:
1. to Share - to copy, distribute and transmit the work
2. to Remix - to adapt the work"
Have a nice day, or I should say a happy new year!
