Etymology[edit]

Contraction of apperustolare, from ad + per + Latin ustulāre, present active infinitive of ustulō. Or a variant of brustolare, from Vulgar Latin *brustulāre, from the aforementioned word, with an initial -br- which is possibly of Germanic origin.
