Etymology

Borrowed from English accept, French accepter, German akzeptieren, Italian accettare and Polish akceptować, ultimately from Latin acceptus, perfect passive participle of accipiō (“receive, accept”). First attested in 1889.

4. (transitive, intransitive) To receive (someone) into one's home, to host (someone); to invite people over, have company

6. to take, take on

   Lia voĉo akceptis seriozan tonon. ― His voice took on a serious tone.

   Por respondi al la demando kien, la vortoj akceptas la finaĵon de l’ akuzativo. (Zamenhof)

   In answer to the question “kien,” words take the accusative ending.
