English

Noun

asperger (plural aspergers)

  1. A ceremonial herb bundle or perforated object used to sprinkle witch's water at the commencement of a ritual

Anagrams

French

Etymology

Borrowed from Latin aspergere, aspergō.

Pronunciation

Verb

asperger

  1. to spray, sprinkle
  2. to splash, splatter

Conjugation

This is a regular -er verb, but the stem is written asperge- before endings that begin with -a- or -o- (to indicate that the -g- is a "soft" /ʒ/ and not a "hard" /ɡ/). This spelling-change occurs in all verbs in -ger, such as neiger and manger.
