From Old Galician and Old Galician-Portuguese banno (13th century, Cantigas de Santa Maria), from Vulgar Latin baneum, from Latin balneum, from Ancient Greek βαλανεῖον (balaneîon). Cognate with Portuguese banho and Spanish baño.
