From Ottoman Turkish بتمك, بیتمك (bitmek), from Proto-Turkic *büt- (to end, get finished).

bitmek (third-person singular simple present biter)

  1. (intransitive) to end, to finish

  2. (intransitive) to grow, to sprout
    Hollanda'da tarlalarda biten lâlere bayıldım.
    I was enthused from the tulips sprouting on the fields in the Netherlands.
