[edit]From Proto-Mon-Khmer *bək ~ *buk ~ *buək (“to bind (round)”). Cognate with Muong puộc, Mon ဗိုက် (pàk, “to put round”), Semai bek (“to bind”), Central Nicobarese [Nancowry] pôk-hata/pôko (“to bind, tie”).
