Non-Sino-Vietnamese reading of Chinese 勁 (“powerful, strong”, SV: kình), or, alternatively, from Proto-Vietic *kəŋʔ. Compare Khmer កឹង (kəng) and Pacoh câng. Also a semantic loan from English hard in hard copy.
