Etymology

From Middle English capoun; partly from Lua error in Module:parameters at line 95: Parameter 2 should be a valid language, etymology language or family code; the value "ONF." is not valid. See WT:LOL, WT:LOL/E and WT:LOF. (Old French chapon) and partly from Old English capūn, both from Latin capo, caponem (Vulgar Latin *cappo), from Proto-Indo-European *kop- (to strike, to beat).
