From cosmo- (world, universe) +‎ -crat (ruler), originally in reference to Satan as "prince of this world" in John 14:30; later used as a variant of cosmocrator, translating Ancient Greek κοσμοκράτωρ (kosmokrátōr) in various ancient texts.
