[edit]Late Latin borrowing from rare Ancient Greek εὐαγγελίζω (euangelízō), active voice variant of deponent εὐαγγελίζομαι (euangelízomai, “I bring good news; I preach the Gospel”), from εὐ- (eu-, “good”) + ἄγγελος (ángelos, “messenger, envoy”), of uncertain origin.
