Hungarian[edit]

Etymology[edit]

fiatal +‎ ember

Pronunciation[edit]

  • IPA(key): [ˈfiʲɒtɒlɛmbɛr]
  • Hyphenation: fi‧a‧tal‧em‧ber

Noun[edit]

fiatalember (plural fiatalemberek)

  1. youth, young man
A fiatalember pontosan tízkor elhagyta a házat. - The young man left the house promptly at ten.
Mit gondol, fiatalember? - What do you think, young man?

Usage notes[edit]

  • To express that someone is still young (not an old man), it must be spelled in two words: fiatal ember.
  • It is a polite way for older adults to address any male between 15-25 years of age as fiatalember. It can also be used in official situations instead of uram (sir).
