Etymology[edit]

From Ottoman Turkish قویلمق (koyulmak), equivalent to koy- (to put, to place) +‎ -ul (passive suffix).

koyulmak (third-person singular simple present koyulur)

  1. passive of koymak: to be put/placed
  2. (intransitive) to start / begin to something; such as work, adventure, journey etc.
