Etymology
From Proto-Vietic *ɓuh, from Proto-Mon-Khmer *ɓuh ~ *ɓuuh (“to bubble; boil”). Cognate with Thavung บุฮ, Khmer ពុះ (puh, “to boil”), Semai boh (“froth, foam”) and Talieng [ʔboh] ("foam, bubbles"). Other cognates through affixed form are Khmer ពពុះ (pɔpuh, “foam”), Semai buboh (“foam”) and Mon ဗၜိုဟ် (həbɒh, “foam”).
