Etymology[edit]

Formed as magneto- +‎ -phoresis, by analogy with electrophoresis.

  1. (physics) Motion induced by a magnetic field on a particle of magnetic or magnetizable material (such as a hemoglobin-bearing red blood cell) in a fluid.
