From Proto-Finnic *parci, possibly from Proto-Finno-Ugric *pärtä. Related to Estonian pars, Karelian parsi, Livonian parž, Veps parz' and Votic parsi, and possibly Eastern Mari пырдыж (pyrdyž, wall), Udmurt борд (bord, wall) and Mansi [script needed] (pārt, board).
