Borrowed from French penchant, present participle of pencher (“to tilt, to lean”), from (deprecated template usage) [etyl] Middle French, from (deprecated template usage) [etyl] Old French pengier (“to tilt, be out of line”), from (deprecated template usage) [etyl] Vulgar Latin *pendicāre, a derivative of (deprecated template usage) [etyl] Latin pendere (“to hang, to lean”).
