Uncertain. The (deprecated template usage) [etyl] Classical Nahuatl term for pulque was octli, or specifically iztac octli (white pulque). Pulque may be a Spanish derivation of (deprecated template usage) [etyl] Classical Nahuatl poliuhqui octli (spoiled pulque, spoiled wine), from poliuhqui (something lost).
