Uncertain. The (deprecated template usage) [etyl] Classical Nahuatl term for pulque was octli, or specifically iztac octli (“white pulque”). Pulque may be a Spanish derivation of (deprecated template usage) [etyl] Classical Nahuatl poliuhqui octli (“spoiled pulque, spoiled wine”), from poliuhqui (“something lost”).
