Etymology
Borrowed from French saxophone, a combination of the surname of its inventor Adolphe Sax (1814–1894) + -o- + -phone (“phone”), from Ancient Greek φωνή (phōnḗ, “voice”). The first element surname is a variant of the German Sachs (“Saxon”).
