Etymology[edit]

Denominal, based on zas (snow), so originally "it lies like snow on the ground".[1]

si- (modal) + -Ø- (3rd person subject prefix) + -ł- (classifier)-zas (neuter stem of root -ZAS, “to sprinkle”).
