Etymology

Coined by Paracelsus from (deprecated template usage) [etyl] Ancient Greek συν- (sun-, with) + (deprecated template usage) [etyl] Latin ovum (egg) + -ia, as synovial fluid resembles the consistency and appearance of eggwhite.
