     From these four modes, the Eight Trigrams, the Creative, the Joyous, the Clinging, the Arousing, the Gentle, the Abysmal, the Keeping Still and the Receptive, form four contrastive pairs: the Creative is the father, the Receptive is the mother; the Arousing is the eldest son, the Gentle is the eldest daughter; the Abysmal is the middle son, the Clinging is the middle daughter; the Keeping Still is the youngest son, the Joyous is the youngest daughter.

Usage notes

While thiếu nữ can be used by itself, thiếu nam is mostly used contrastively as a male equivalent of thiếu nữ in the same running text.
