[edit]Etymology
[edit]Inherited from Old Galician-Portuguese traiçon, from Latin trāditiōnem (“a giving up, handing over, surrender, delivery, tradition”), from trādō (“give up, hand over, deliver over, betray”, verb), from trāns- (“over, across”) + dō (“give”) (from Proto-Indo-European *deh₃- (“to give”)). By surface analysis, trair + -ção. Doublet of tradição. Cognate with Galician traizón and Spanish traición.
