[edit]From Proto-Albanian *wesi, from earlier *ōusi, from Proto-Indo-European *h₂ṓws- and dual ending *-ih₁. Cognate with Lithuanian ausìs (“id”), Ancient Greek οὖς (oûs), Latin auris.

[edit]Uncertain. Possibly akin to Lithuanian vaĩsius (“fruit”), alternatively from Proto-Indo-European *wéyh₁ō (“vine”) or perhaps even the same as for the sense “ear”.[1] By some identified as the source of Ancient Greek βαίεσσα (baíessa, “bunch of grapes”).[2]
