From Proto-Albanian *ȳł < *ył < *ūlʉh, from Proto-Indo-European *h₂us-los < *h₂u̯es- (to become bright).[1] Compare Old English ysle (hot ashes)), from *h₁ews- (to burn) (compare Latin urere, Ancient Greek εὕω (heúō, to singe)).
