zonde f (plural zonden or zondes, diminutive zondetje n)

  1. sin (offence against moral and/or divine law)
    Doden is een ergere zonde dan stelen.

  2. (religion, chiefly Christianity) sin; sinfulness (state of alienation from God or any other deity caused by such offences)
