From Proto-Tocharian *ā́ntë, from Proto-Indo-European *h₂ént-o- (in front), *h₂ent- (front, front side). Compare Latin ante, Ancient Greek ἀντί (antí, opposite, facing), Sanskrit अन्ति (ánti), Old Armenian ընդ (ənd), and Old English ende (English end). Compare Tocharian B ānte.
