Inherited from Old Ruthenian хотѣ́ти (xotě́ti), from Old East Slavic хотѣти (xotěti), from Proto-Slavic *xotěti. Cognate with Russian хоте́ть (xotétʹ) and Ukrainian хотіти (xotity).
