  1. to be caused to be fat or plump, to be well-nourished, to be full-figured
  2. to cause nourishment, to be nourishing
    • 609–632 CE, Qur'an, 88:6-7:
      لَيْسَ لَهُمْ طَعَامٌ إِلَّا مِنْ ضَرِيعٍ ۝ لَا يُسْمِنُ وَلَا يُغْنِي مِنْ جُوعٍ
      laysa lahum ṭaʕāmun ʔillā min ḍarīʕin / lā yusminu walā yuḡnī min jūʕin
      No food is for them, only from a moisture-less thistle, not causing nourishment, nor causing satisfaction from hunger.
