Etymology

Calque from Chinese 頑童 (literally “old brat”), the nickname of Zhou Botong (周伯通), a character in The Legend of the Condor Heroes (射鵰英雄傳), a 1957 novel by Jin Yong (金庸). Same as เฒ่า (tâo, aged, old; aged person, old person) +‎ ทารก (taa-rók, baby; infant).
