Etymology
[edit]/isodi/ → /isozi/. Shift from earlier いそち (isochi),[1] which is from Old Japanese, a compound of 五十 (iso, “thirty”) + ち (chi, a suffix derived from つ (tsu), an Old Japanese counter). The -chi changes to -ji as an instance of rendaku (連濁).
