Etymology[edit]
Compound of 髪 (kami, “hair on the head”) + 剃り (sori, “shaving facial hair or body hair; a shaver”, the 連用形 (ren'yōkei, “stem or continuative form”) of the verb 剃る (soru, “to shave facial hair or body hair”).). First cited in the ten-volume Wamyō Ruijushō of 934 CE.[1]
The kanji are from Chinese 剃刀 (tìdāo).
