Etymology

From Byzantine Greek μαζεύω (mazeúō) from Hellenistic Ancient Greek ὁμαδεύω (homadeúō, collect) (see ὁμάς (homás, the whole)). By false etymology related to μαζί (mazí, together). [1] and μᾶζα (mâza, barley-bread).[2]
