Etymology[edit]

From Proto-Slavic *uxo, from Proto-Indo-European *h₂ous-. Compare Russian ухо ‎(úxo) and Belarusian вуха ‎(vúxa). Cognate with Old Armenian ունկն ‎(unkn), Gothic 𐌰𐌿𐍃𐍉 ‎(auso), Ancient Greek οὖς ‎(oûs), Latin auris, Modern Persian گوش ‎(guš).
