From пра́вый (právyj, correct) +‎ -о- (-o-) +‎ писа́ть (pisátʹ, to write) +‎ -а́ние (-ánije), or their equivalents in Old Church Slavonic, calque of Ancient Greek ὀρθογραφία (orthographía), from ὀρθός (orthós, correct) and γράφω (gráphō, I write).
