Russian[edit]

Etymology[edit]

Follows from the diachronic convergence of Proto-Slavic *tъčiti (to point, to sharpen), which ultimately continues pIE *tewk- (“to hew” > “to shove, to weave, to seed”), with Proto-Slavic *tоčiti (to drain, to protract), from pIE *tekʷ- (to flow, to run). The first form is an iterative derivative of Russian ткнуть (tknutʹ, to poke) while the second is a causative derivative of Russian течь (tečʹ, to flow).
