Definition from Wiktionary, the free dictionary
- In the chronologically earlier texts of the Hebrew Bible the word denotes both the holiday of the new moon and a lunar month (the period between two successive such holidays). In later Biblical texts, as well as post-Biblical Hebrew texts and Modern Hebrew, only the denotation "month" is used (not necessarily a lunar month).
