Etymology 1[edit]
Causative of the verb عَلِمَ (ʕalima, “to know”), from the root ع ل م (ʕ-l-m).

أَعْلَمَ • (ʔaʕlama) IV, non-past يُعْلِمُ (yuʕlimu)
- (ditransitive, tritransitive) to inform, to notify (construed with a direct object of the person notified and either a second direct object of the thing notified about or through بِ (bi))
- أَعْلَمْتُ صَدِيقِي الْأَخْبَارَ ― ʔaʕlamtu ṣadīqī l-ʔaḵbāra ― I informed/notified my friend about the news.
- أَعْلَمْتُ صَدِيقِي بِالْأَخْبَارِ. ― ʾaʿlamtu ṣadīqī bi-l-ʾaḵbāri. ― I informed/notified my friend about the news.
- أَعْلَمْتُ صَدِيقِي الْخَبَرَ صَحِيحًا ― ʔaʕlamtu ṣadīqī l-ḵabara ṣaḥīḥan ― (please add an English translation of this usage example)
