[edit]Borrowed from Arabic أَزَل (ʔazal), from Middle Persian [script needed] (ʾsl /asar/, “endless”), from [script needed] (ʾ- /a-/, “un-, without”) + [script needed] (sl /sar/, “head; end”, whence modern سر (sar)).
