Inherited from Old Hindi दो (do), from Sauraseni Prakrit 𑀤𑁄 (do), from Sanskrit द्व (dvá) (also duváu and duvā́), from Proto-Indo-Iranian *dwáH, from Proto-Indo-European *dwóh₁. Cognate with Marathi दोन (don), Gujarati બે (be), Bengali দুই (dui), Nepali दुई (duī), Konkani दोन (don), Punjabi ਦੋ (do), Maithili दू (), Bhojpuri दू (), and distantly English two.
