Inherited from Old Hindi देना (denā), from Sauraseni Prakrit 𑀤𑁂𑀤𑀺 (dedi), from Sanskrit ददाति (dadāti), from Proto-Indo-Iranian *dádaHti, from Proto-Indo-European *dé-deh₃-ti. Cognate with Nepali दिनु (dinu).
